Blue Water Homecare will now begin offering end-of-life hospice services to clients throughout Central Texas.
According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, approximately 1.5 million Americans receive hospice care each year.
With our area becoming a popular retirement destination, the need for high quality, personalized healthcare for people at every stage of life is in high demand in and around Austin.
As an established provider of at-home care services for seniors or those struggling with a challenging injury or illness, Blue Water Hospice developed as a natural extension of what we already do.
“We wanted to give the seniors of Central Texas options when making end-of-life care decisions,” says Blue Water Homecare founder and COO, Jennifer Prescott, RN, MSN, CDP. “Those decisions are stressful enough without having to move away from home. At Blue Water Homecare, we ease the challenges of aging in place, and we felt that through Blue Water Hospice, we could also make this life transition more comfortable for the patient and the family.”
The goal of Blue Water Hospice is to support and guide families through the extremely difficult time when a loved one’s rehabilitation process has ceased to progress with medical treatment. Blue Water aims to ensure that their final days together are filled with comfort and dignity.
Comprehensive bereavement support goes hand-in-hand with all hospice care to help families grieve, transition, and heal following the loss of a loved one.
All of our caregivers are extremely well-versed about the stages of terminal decline and familiar with industry-standard end-of-life protocols for symptom management. We are also highly skilled at coordinating the combined efforts of doctors, hospitals/other care facilities, multiple family members, spiritual representatives, and palliative care services. Common services of both hospice and homecare might include:
- Bathing and dressing
- Cleaning of catheters
- Helping with toileting
- Assisting with feeding and fluid intake
- Administering medication reminders
- Handling household chores such as light laundry and tidying up, meal preparation, or running errands
Blue Water Hospice will be adding additional team members over the next year to help support and care for patients and their families.
