Blue Water Homecare is proud to announce a special partnership with Therapeutic Recreation Group (TRG), an organization which serves our local veteran community.
At Blue Water, we are honored to serve veterans and their families as well through our Veterans Home Health Aide Services.
In December, Blue Water will be sponsoring a Marine veteran to join TRG on a hunting expedition to Peeler Ranch in Tilden, Texas.
Research shows that spending time outdoors participating in activities like camping, fishing, or hiking could help improve the mental health of veterans.
“As a Registered Nurse, I have seen that outdoor therapy is immensely beneficial for veterans,” says Blue Water Homecare and Hospice founder and COO, Jennifer Prescott, RN, MSN, CDP.
“Our responsibility in the healthcare industry is not limited to providing traditional medical treatments; it extends to addressing the holistic well-being of our patients too, and veterans are no exception.”
What does TRG do?
TRG is committed to restoring, remediating, and rehabilitating veterans and first responders. It aims to promote health and wellness and reduce or eliminate life limitations caused by mental or physically disabling conditions.
The organization coordinates several events a year to unite veterans and first responders who have similar interests and skills. One key objective of TRG is to surround veterans with community members who are high performers to help them regain a positive mindset and provide career guidance.
When was TRG established?
TRG was founded as a non-profit in 2020 by two former Marines who served together, Robbie Horne, a Purple Heart recipient, and P.J. Kratohvil. After volunteering on multiple outdoor expeditions with other veteran organizations, the two decided to form their own organization that would focus on bringing together local veterans looking to rediscover themselves and their place in the community. TRG’s goal is for veterans to keep in touch following their trip to maintain relationships and support one another.
What was the inspiration for starting TRG?
Robbie lost his older brother, who was also a Marine, to suicide. He felt that if his brother had the opportunity to be a part of an organization like this which fosters community among veterans following their time of service, he would still be alive today.
Partnering to Serve Veterans
When asked why TRG is partnering with Blue Water, Robbie says, “as a vet, you don’t really know what services that are out there that can help you. We want to help identify these services.”
“Blue Water is bridging the gap for vets, especially older Vietnam veterans, who are not able to successfully navigate the VA system and get the home help they need.”
He further adds that “Blue Water is helping this community which is near and dear to our hearts.”
For our part, Blue Water Homeacre co-founder Travis Prescott says, “volunteering with veteran groups like TRG makes us feel connected to the people we are serving and ultimately helps us better assist our veteran clients and their families.”
How does Blue Water Homecare Help Veterans?
Blue Water Homecare provides homecare services to our dedicated United States Veterans through the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care Program (HHA).
This program was created to help veterans age safely and independently in the comfort and convenience of their own homes, and services provided by Blue Water are under the direction of our experienced team of registered nurses and trained home healthcare professionals.
